In a short-term rental, guests notice the bed and bathroom linens almost immediately. A clean surface is important, but presentation also communicates whether the property was prepared with care. At Sunshine Brazilian, we treat bed-making and towel setup as part of the final inspection—not as decoration added at the last minute.
Start with a clean-room sequence
Before touching fresh linens, finish dusting, vacuuming and cleaning high-touch surfaces. Wash or sanitize your hands, then bring only the linens needed for that room. This avoids placing clean sheets on a dusty chair or carrying them through areas that are still being cleaned.
Inspect every linen before use
Check sheets, pillowcases and towels under good light. Set aside any item with stains, hair, makeup marks, damage or a persistent odor. A piece can be freshly washed and still be unsuitable for a guest. Keep rejected items in a clearly labeled container so they are not returned to the clean-linen shelf by mistake.
A repeatable bed-making method
- Check the mattress protector and replace it when soiled or damaged.
- Fit the bottom sheet tightly, with all corners fully secured.
- Center the top sheet and blanket so both sides fall evenly.
- Smooth visible wrinkles by hand instead of hiding them under pillows.
- Place pillows with openings facing inward or away from the room entrance.
- Step back and inspect the bed from the doorway, including the floor and headboard area.
A consistent method helps different team members deliver the same standard. It also makes missing items—such as a pillowcase or blanket—easier to spot before the room is released.
Towel presentation without unnecessary handling
Towels should be completely dry, free of lint and folded on a clean surface. Simple folds are usually better than complicated shapes because they require less handling and are easy for guests to understand. Group bath towels, hand towels and washcloths consistently, and place extras where the guest can find them without opening every cabinet.
Never place clean towels on the toilet lid, floor or a damp counter. If decorative folds are used, they should never compromise hygiene or hide stains and wear.
What to check around the bed and bathroom
- Hair along the headboard, mattress edge and bathroom floor
- Dust on lamps, switches, nightstands and baseboards
- Fingerprints on mirrors, faucets and door handles
- Items left by a previous guest under the bed or inside drawers
- Missing protectors, pillowcases, towels or bath mats
- Damp linens or strong fragrance used to mask an odor
Use a property-specific checklist
Every rental has a different layout and inventory. A useful checklist names the actual rooms, bed sizes, number of towels and location of supplies. It should also identify who performs the final inspection. Generic lists are helpful for training, but a property-specific list prevents avoidable mistakes during a busy turnover.
Safety and product care
Follow the care label on every textile and the manufacturer’s instructions for laundry products. Do not mix cleaning chemicals, and do not apply a product to upholstery or bedding unless it is intended for that material. When a stain cannot be safely removed, replace the item rather than experimenting shortly before check-in.
Our final walkthrough
Before leaving, we view the room as a guest would: from the entrance, beside the bed and inside the bathroom. We confirm that linens are complete, surfaces are dry, personal items are gone and the room looks orderly in natural and artificial light. This final pause catches details that are easy to miss while actively cleaning.
